FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE MY DOG, CAT OR FERRET TO AN EU COUNTRY OR NORTHERN IRELAND?

  1. Your pet must be microchipped

  2. They must be vaccinated against Rabies and it must be at least 21 days since the primary vaccination

  3. An Animal Health Certificate issued within 10 days of travel or a valid EU pet Passport.

  4. Tapeworm treatment if you are travelling to Northern Ireland, Ireland, Finland, Norway or Malta.

IS MY UK PET PASSPORT STILL VALID?

Since the Brexit deadline of 1 January 2021, you can no longer use a pet passport issued in England, Wales or Scotland to take your pet to a country in the EU or Northern Ireland. Instead, you'll need an animal health certificate for your dog, cat or ferret.
If your Rabies vaccine is still valid and was administered before 1st January 2021 then a GB Pet Passport can still be used to enter Great Britain from the EU or Northern Ireland.

WHAT ARE THE TAPEWORM TREATMENT REQUIREMENTS ON ENTRY INTO THE UK?

A vet must administer a tapeworm treatment and enter the details of the treatment on the AHC. This must be done no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours of entry into the UK.

WHAT INFORMATION WILL I NEED TO PROVIDE WHEN APPLYING FOR AN AHC?

We will require certified evidence that your pet is up to date with their Rabies vaccination and that their microchip was scanned prior to the vaccination. This can be done by having an existing Pet Passport or Rabies Vaccination Certificate signed by your vet or alternatively your pet's medical record. These documents must be emailed to us by your vet.
The document should include the owner's name and address, the pets microchip number as well as date of birth, sex, colour and breed.

WHICH DOCUMENTS CAN'T BE USED AS VACCINATION EVIDENCE?

Standard vaccination cards, invoices, microchip certificates or documents emailed by anyone other than your vet.
We require certified documents to clearly show the vet's name, signature and practice stamp. The easiest way to ensure the correct information is supplied is to request your vet email the pet's medical history directly to us.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY PET'S RABIES VACCINE IS NO LONGER IN DATE?

Your pet will require another Rabies vaccination and wont be able to travel until 21 days after the vaccination.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IF I TRAVEL FREQUENTLY?

An Animal Health Certificate is required for each trip. A repeat Rabies vaccination is not needed, as long as it is up to date. A tapeworm treatment would be required for each trip if you are visiting one of Northern Ireland, Ireland, Finland, Norway or Malta.

WHICH LANGUAGE AHC WILL I NEED?

An AHC is required to be in dual language if the country of entry speaks a different language to English. Therefore if your country of entry was France we would need to prepare an English/French AHC. If you were flying directly to Italy without transiting any other country, we would prepare an English/Italian AHC. You are required to enter the EU through a specific Travellers Point of Entry (TPE). We can guide you during our contact with you.
Once you have entered the EU an AHC will give you onward travel between EU countries for up to 4 months without the requirement for a new AHC between EU countries.

HOW LONG ARE AHCS VALID FOR?

An Animal Health Certificate is valid for travel into the EU or Northern Ireland for 10 days. It can be used for 1 return trip and for onward travel within Europe for up to 4 months. If you are travelling for longer than 4 months a GB export certificate will be required on entry back into the UK.

WHO NEEDS TO BE PRESENT WHEN COLLECTING THE AHC?

The owner must be present with the pet at time of signing and collection of the AHC (a person who has authorisation in writing from the owner may be present - please contact us first to discuss). This is because it is a legal requirement for us to scan your pet's microchip and have the owner sign the declaration to say the pet is travelling for non-commercial reasons, before we can sign the AHC.

HOW AND WHERE DO WE COLLECT THE AHC?

We are a mobile certification service and therefore once you have contacted us through the website and we have gathered all the relevant information, we will prepare your AHC and arrange a meeting place. Please bear in mind we are based in Leeds. If you require us to meet you further a field, please let us know as there may be a delivery charge, we will discuss this directly with you.

HOW MUCH DOES AN AHC COST?

An AHC for the first pet costs £99 with each additional pet (up to a maximum of 5) costing £30. We require a minimum of 14 days notice.
If an urgent request is made (less than 14 days) please check availability. If we are able to provide an AHC it will cost £199 with each additional pet (up to a maximum of 5) costing £30.

HOW DO I MAKE PAYMENT?

Once we have received your request, the relevant information and confirmed a date of issue, we will send you payment details which can be made by bank transfer. We require payment by the day of issuing the AHC and before collection.
